Restylane Kysse is one of two lip filler options offered at Arkatiea Aesthetics & Wellness, alongside Juvéderm Ultra XC. Where Ultra XC is built for a fuller, more noticeable look, Kysse was engineered around a different problem entirely: how to add volume to the lips without making them feel stiff.
XpresHAn Technology
Cross-links the gel so it stretches and returns to shape as the lips move
Rigid, Linear Structure
Sits as a static volume that can feel stiff with movement
Flexible — Stretches & Rebounds
Moves naturally with the lips during talking, smiling & expression
What Makes It Different: XpresHAn Technology
Restylane Kysse is a hyaluronic acid gel built using XpresHAn Technology (also called Optimal Balance Technology), a proprietary cross-linking method that changes how the gel behaves physically. According to Galderma's FDA approval coverage, XpresHAn Technology has been demonstrated to produce natural-looking results specifically in patients with dynamic facial wrinkles — areas of the face, like the lips, that are constantly moving. Rather than sitting as a static volume, the gel is designed to stretch and return to its original shape as you talk, smile, or purse your lips.
FDA Approval and Clinical Data
The Phase 3 Trial Data
Cited in Galderma's official FDA approval announcement
of trial patients still satisfied with results at 1 full year
needed on average vs. 2.24 mL of a comparator filler
FDA-approved age minimum for lip augmentation use
Restylane Kysse received FDA approval in April 2020 for lip augmentation and the correction of upper perioral rhytids (the fine lines above the mouth) in adults over 21 — the first hyaluronic acid filler specifically indicated for the lips using this cross-linking technology. The Phase 3 trial data behind that approval included a detail worth knowing: according to Galderma's official approval announcement, a lower amount of Restylane Kysse (1.82 mL) was needed to achieve the same improvement in lip fullness compared to a comparator product (2.24 mL) — and 78% of trial patients reported they were still satisfied with their results a full year after treatment.
What to Expect
Like Juvéderm Ultra XC, Restylane Kysse contains a small amount of lidocaine mixed directly into the gel to improve comfort during injection. Results are visible immediately, and the flexible gel structure is specifically designed to minimize the swelling that can make lips look overdone in the first few days after treatment.
Who Kysse Is a Good Fit For
Restylane Kysse vs. Juvéderm Ultra XC
Two lip fillers — two different approaches
Natural Movement
Moves naturally with the lips during talking, smiling & expression
Fuller & More Noticeable
Soft, pillowy gel built for a clearly visible increase in lip fullness
Kysse tends to be the right choice for clients who want their lips to look — and more importantly, feel and move — exactly like their own during talking, smiling, and everyday expression. It's often preferred by people who are cautious about lip filler specifically because they're worried about a stiff or "duck lip" look. Clients who want a more dramatic, noticeable increase in fullness and are comfortable with a softer, more pillowy feel sometimes prefer Juvéderm Ultra XC instead — the right choice depends on whether flexibility or fullness matters more to you.
